Scorpio never forgets a gift or a kindness, and it's richly rewarded. Conversely, he also remembers an injury or an injustice, but there are different ways of reacting. The eagle will crush the enemy so the enemy leams never to hurt him again, win the fight, and leave the defeated to go his own way. The deadly nocturnal scorpion will first sting, then plan destruction, then sting again. He's not content with merely evening the score. He must totally destroy the enemy, or at least top him. The typical scorpion stinger will lie awake nights figuring how to get even. However, with the gray lizards, Pluto revenge takes the form of bitterness held inside for years, which inevitably causes deep melancholy or actual, lingering physical illness. Seething Scorpio resentment, turned inward and never expressed, poisons with deadly certainty. Turned outward, it can create guilt, because the stinger scorpion is ashamed to harm the defenseless, when all is said and done. Therefore, it should be turned neither way-inward nor outward. It should be conquered by looking up and forgetting, like the eagle-- never by looking back in anger and retaliation.

you can't classify everything as one or the other, especially when it comes to people, experiences and emotions. if you aren't good you must be bad. if you aren't a virgin you must be a whore. each and every one of us is much too complex to be split up into one of two categories.*

i think this is my greatest challenge. i believe what separates (or should i say elevates since separating would cause a split) adults from non-adults is the ability to understand that as simple as it is to classify someone as one thing or the other we ultimately refuse to do so and we can take them for who they are.

as much as i want to put some people into a category labeled "bad" i don't. okay, i do for just a second while i get over it, but then i say to myself even though i may be angry with you because you did something kinda shitty and i hate that you did it, but you, well you are ok after all because i'm sure it took a lot of abstract thought, physio and psychological crap to get you where you are now and your experiences are not my experiences. so i don't understand why you did this shitty thing to me, but i take you for what you are-- the complex twins within. not a whore or a virgin.

* take a look at that! too, to and two all in one sentence.

what's the point in having a cellphone if you're just going to screen your calls? i thought the whole point in having advances in technology was to be more connected to each other. what a farce! we're not more connected. in fact the more connected we get the more we disconnect.

phone numbers used to be earned. you had to work hard to get someone's number...

"well, since we've become friends this semester i'll give you my number. you can call me when you need something."

bullshit. now we exchange cellphone numbers like a 13 year old orphan passing out free acid at the playground.

"you want it? take it." i'll just screen the call anyway. what the hell do i care if you call. i've got fences and a dog.

i can be stranded in the middle of god knows where and you will only let me talk to voicemail. half the time not even a personalized greeting. a g.d. machine.

i hate cellphones and i hate caller id.

***

i also hate bike-riding mother fuckers who can clearly see that you need a jump off and don't do a got damned thing. 50 of you assholes passed by and not one (actually only one) asked me if i needed help. i hope your extremely tight bike shorts malfunction and expose you for the frauds you really are.

***

i'm not sure if i'm more mad that 50 people passed me by in broad daylight without asking if i was ok, if i had help on the way or because my car doesn't tell me when the battery is about to die!

i have internet... finally.

i am feeling passionate about going back to school. it's because i think i want to become an un-embedded news reporter after graduating with a degree in print journalism. i think flicking the bird in death's general direction while telling the story of an underdog is the way to go for me. it's just bad-ass enough to be my career. i have a very long (not really THAT long) and drawn out plan that involves me starting school asap! of course, i missed fall registration by that much, but i'm getting a head-start on spring, indeed.

i'm 97% sure this isn't a fly-by-night idea, but only time will tell. i'm super stoked. i'm looking at newspapers in a whole new light.

p.s. go rent hotel rwanda today! i finally saw it and that's when i said to myself, "hey! you can sit there and cry about unfortunte, really terrible situations for the rest of your life or you can do something to change the situations."

Dear Muff,

I saw you on my third day at the new building on Allen Parkway. It's not a new building, it's just new to me and Baker Hughes. We were both, for once sober and working (as opposed to partying). I was on my way back from lunch in the cafeteria. I was going to say hi, but the escalators were too fast and you were round the corner by the time I was close enough to say hello without causing a scene. I see you in the strangest (because work is strange) places. You looked to be doing well. Are you working for AIG?

Maybe I'll see you again and can say hi next time.

Take Care.
